Modstox  made there first ever trip to Sheffield raceway on a gloriously hot day in front of the large crowd with BRISCA F2’S and a major banger meet the battle of Britain  “Totty” memorial meet.

There were a couple of first time entries Steve Watkiss(13) a former autograss racer from Pontefract in the ex simon Wallace car and “Reggie vision” Reg Picken(191) a former hotstox racer from early 90’s in a self built car.Steve quickly got into the spirit of contact racing and seemed to enjoy himself whilst reggie was unfortunately sidelined all day with mystery engine probs despite the best efforts of both the picken and mack team engine gurus!!

Heat1 –  on a wet but slick track early leader was steve Denbigh(12) with nath picken(95) second.at quarter distance steve watkiss(13) got crossed up going into the third bend but managed to keep it out of the fence  buttangled with craig mack(156) and  several drivers were slowed as they waited to see which way he ‘d end up..this allowed gary picken(93) to nip past neil mack for 3rd behind steve(12) and nath(95. couple of laps later gary was up to 2nd as team mate nath slowed with a blown engine.gary the took over the lead with neil(56) in close contention to the finish line.

Heat 2  - the track was watered pretty heavily before race 2 but  the track still provided good traction for most.early leader was swinton project dale mcandrew(303) with steve watkiss in 2nd and a battle for 3rd between steve (12) and mark tenant(999).

At quarter distance neil cooper(256) retired to the infield with a wheel off.next action was gary(93) trying to take steve(13) for 3rd when steve pinched down on gary going into bend 1  which resulted in steve spinning  slowing 156 and steve (12) clouting the fence  which ripped his bonnet and carb clean off.in all the melee  dale mcandrew (303) had an impressive 1/3 of a lap lead and whilst gary(93) closed in in the last few laps was never able to make a challenge and so dale deservedly became the first ever swinton carproject winner in Modstox.

Final – no shows of 12,95 and 256.apologies also for limited report below no reggievision video available! so report based purely on 93 recollections.steve(13) and dale battle early on but by mid distance it was a duel between the mack boys 156 and 56 whilst a similar battle raged between dale(303) and andrew edwards(6),gary (93) was well back and struggled to pass resilient newboy steve(13).however going into the last bend gary closed in on the 303 and 6 car battle which ended with dalebouncin off the fence yards from the finish which destabilised Andrew who was collected broadside full bore by gary sending them both in a spin and crossing the line  backwards!! With dale embedded in the fence!!

Overall an excellent meeting with some good hard stock car racing and the track seemed to suit the cars well with narrow straights but long sweeping bends meaning all cars were running fairly evenly.Driver of the day undoubtedly dale mcandrew(303) with a great win in heat 2
