Modstox kicked off the 2008 season with a meet at Belle Vue in front of the mighty BRISCA F1’F2’S and Ministox courtesy of sponsorship by the Swinton Car Project.  The weather conditions were surprisingly mild with even some pleasant early evening spring sunshine conditions.. Unfortunately with packed pits and a few organisational issues not of modstox’s making and a strict time curfew at belle vue we were unable to have the 3 races we hoped for. The committee will be in discussion with Steve Rees prior to the next Startrax meeting at Sheffield to try and improve communication and guarantee us at least 3 races to make our efforts worthwhile.

As usual in the first meeting of the season there were a couple of first time entries with welcome new faces of 2 swinton car project racers Anna Williams(103) a former ministox racer and dale mcandrew(303) making his racing debut.

Heat1 – a couple of cars didn’t make it out for heat 1 Gary Picken (93) stranded at the pit gate with carburettor probs and Steve Denbigh (12).the track was heavily watered.

Early leader was Dave Shaw(112) from Nathan picken(95) and Neil cooper(256).by mid distance the battle for the lead was between Dave(112) and Neil Mack(56) whilst behind Nath(95) and jake roche(99) battle for 3rd until nath hit the tyres on the 4th bend.late on Andrew Edwards(6) passed jake (99) for 4th whilst neil(56) had a fairly comfortable win to open his 2008 account.

Heat 2  - 93 and 12 made it out for this race but this time jake (99) was a nonstarter.Early leader was Steve Denbigh(12) under pressure from Nathan(95) whilst early casualty was Gary(93) pulling off with ignition probs. By lap3 Nath was leading but now under pressure from Coops(256) whilst further back Dave (112) slipped back with a badly smoking engine diagnosed as blown head gasket.

At three quarter distance the battles were in 3 groups… 56 and 256 in close contention95 and Craig Mack(156) and further back 12 and 6.Neil held on for the win although Coops was in close contention whilst Craig came through to pass Nath on the last lap for 3rd.

Overall a steady not a classic opener with many disappointed by the lack of 3rd race but our presence on a more mainstream stage did result in some additional driver interest with at least 1 former autograss racer already planning to build a car
